Steel Ball Joints

Metalspun Products Co., Inc. performs metal forming and fabrication of a variety of components including multiple piece assemblies. This project was completed for our customer in the HVAC industry. These steel ball joints were created from cold rolled steel. Individual pieces were hydroformed on our presses and spun on both our CNC and manual lathes. Metalspun can help determine whether projects are better suited for spinning, hydroforming, or a combination of the two. This flexibility provides a more economical and better quality part. After forming, components were trimmed and deburred before the entire assembly was fillet welded. The assemblies were then plated with cadmium zinc plating per the customer’s specifications.

Dimensional and gauge inspection were performed to ensure that all parts met dimensional tolerances. The finished assemblies ranged in size from 5–1/2″ to 16-1/2″ in diameter and 9-3/8″ to 29″ in height, all with tolerances as tight as ± .03125″. We produced 56 of these ball valves for our customer in the Milwaukee area with a turnaround time of 4-5 weeks.
